Multi-Tiered Intensive Supervision: A Culturally-Informed Method of Clinical Supervision

n this exploratory phenomenological study, the authors researched experiences of doctoral level supervisors (N=5) who piloted a new supervision approach, Multi-Tiered Intensive Supervision (MTIS). MTIS is 13-week intervention that involves hierarchical supervisory which includes clinical with three different professionals. This approach applies an anti-racist framework and merges components traditional models allows concepts such as knowledge development multicultural counseling theory, conceptualization intersectionality cultural identities enhanced personal self-awareness across each layer supervision. Five themes were identified: (a) recognition power, privilege, oppression; (b) impact; (c) deficits in current training models; (d) skill development; (e) impact MTIS. Implications recommendations for supervisors, counselor education programs, researchers are provided.
